Masthead
The masthead, as always, for this magazine is the 'Q' logo. Like all magazine's, this masthead is located at the top of the front cover. However, most magazine mastheads spread over the top of the page but this masthead only covers part of that section. I personally like this masthead because, it provides color to the rest of the magazine which in my opinion, is a bit gloomy and depressing. As a result, the black and white theme of this front cover allows the masthead to stand out. I also like the fact that the masthead only covers part of the top of the page because, it allows the reader to focus on the rest of the front cover which means that they will know what to expect when they read the magazine. Therefore, the reader can make a decision over whether they want to buy the magazine or not.
Central Image
As you can see, the central image of Lennon and Yoko dominates the front cover. This allows them to be the only focus of that front cover because, the main article in the magazine will be about them. I like the fact that the central image dominates the front cover because, it will be the first thing the target audience sees when they look at the magazine and they can make a judgement there and then whether they want to buy the magazine or not. However, for my magazine, my central image will have color. As I have said, the black and white color makes the front cover look very depressing.
Barcode
In my opinion, the barcode is only a minor part of the magazine front cover because, the barcode is featured on every single magazine front cover. Also, the barcode is always the same. I will feature a barcode on my magazine front cover because, it scans the magazine which enables the target audience to buy it in the first place.
Skyline
The skyline is the section of text which is featured above the masthead. I don't think every magazine features a skyline and I am not sure whether I will feature one on my magazine. Instead, I might use a slogan because, a skyline basically provides extra information as to what will feature in the main image. I think it is rather unnecessary.
Text
Text is a common feature on this magazine front cover and that is because, it tells us what is going to be featured in the magazine. I think the appropriate amount of text was used on this front cover because, it gives the target audience a 'taster' as to what to expect from the magazine. Also, I like the fact that the text doesn't dominate the front cover but you are still aware of the supporting articles.
Layout
I think that the layout of this magazine works well. The central image and the text are together, but separated. We can still read the text and be able to see the most important of the central image. For my magazine, I would make the font size of the text slightly smaller to allow the central image to take centre stage even more.
Colour Scheme
Overall, I have to say that the colour scheme works for this magazine front cover. The bright and colorful red ties in well with the darker colors of gold, black, grey and white. However, I would use a different colour scheme for my magazine because, I think that the colour of gold doesn't make the magazine look very youthful and current and I certainly won't be using the colour of gold at all for my magazine.
Mise en scene
The 'models' Lennon and Ono are wearing very dark and plain clothing. It doesn't sound and look very exciting but I think that they did this so that there is more focus on their faces. However, I would want the models for my front cover to wear brighter clothing to provide the rest of the front cover with more colour. Their facial expressions and body language suggest that they mean business and that the target audience must read the magazine. For my front cover, I would want the models to look directly at the camera.
