Unlike the mastheads for the other two deconstructions, the
masthead for this magazine spreads across the top of the page. However, there
is still focus on the rest of the front cover because, the masthead is
partially covered by the models head. However, my masthead will only cover the
top left corner of the front cover to allow even more focus on the rest of the
front cover.
Central Image
The central image features the late Michael Jackson. I will
use a similar sort of format, in which the model is looking towards the camera
because, I think it will draw the target audience to the magazine when they
first look at it.
Essential
Information
I can’t see any essential information on this front cover. For
my front cover, I will make my essential information more visible to the target
audience so that the target audience know how much the magazine costs. Also,
the target audience might want to keep the magazine as some sort of souvenir for
the future so I will feature the date of publication on my front cover. Also,
the barcode is featured as always. As I have said, I will use a barcode for my
front cover so that the magazine can be bought.
Text and Layout
The text has been layered in the form of a newspaper article,
which I think is straight to the point and suggests that the tone of the main
article is very formal and serious but interesting as well. I will use this
format of text for my front cover but I would feature text on both sides of the
cover to provide the target audience with more information.
Mise en scene
The ‘model’ Michael Jackson is wearing dark
clothing, which I think, represents the mood of the magazine. However, the
model for my magazine would slightly brighter clothing so that the target
audience wouldn’t be completely put off from buying the magazine. The main colour scheme for this
magazine is black and orange, which I think works well with the dark clothing
Jackson is wearing. This is because, it allows the target audience to focus on
just his face and the text. It appears that the photo was taken inside a
studio, which allows the model to look more distinctive and stand out. As I
have said, I would want the model for my front cover to only wear make up for
lighting purposes. Too much makeup would make the model look fake. His facial
expressions and body language tell us that he wants us to read the magazine.
That is because, he is looking directly at the camera. For my front cover, I would
want my model to look directly at the camera so that it draws the target
audience to the magazine.
