Introduction Post

My name is Dominic Elsy and this is the introduction post for my blog for AS Media Studies. For my coursework, my task is to create a front page, a contents page and a double page spread of a brand new music magazine. In order to achieve this, I must research existing music magazines and musicians/artists who are currently in the charts. For the first part of my coursework, I created a mood board, which contained images of musical instruments, various artists of differing music genre and other music magazine logos. I have used NME, Vibe and Q magazines for my research.

For my magazine, I have chosen to cover the following genres of music; pop rock, rock, indie and r&b. I will be covering these genres of music because, all of them require a large amount of talent. My magazine is going to be based on genuinely talented musicians who are currently in the charts. I say ‘talented musicians’ because, I think that a lot of the artists in the charts are not actually talented and they would have been given a recording contract because, of their looks and personality. The target audience for my magazine will be teenagers, of both genders, who are aged between 16-19 year olds. The target audience would also have a strong interest in indie, pop rock, rock and r&b music and would regularly attend the latest concerts. They also have generally positive outlook on life.

As you can see, my mood board contains images which reflects all of the genres of music I am covering for my magazine. I have used images of various artists such as Eminem, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran, Michael Jackson and Texas which all represent the genres of music I am covering. I have also used images of the logos of NME, Vibe and Q because, they cover similar genres of music. Basically, my magazine is just another one of those magazine's. However, people like different magazine's which is why NME, Vibe and Q are still selling.

In order to complete this task successfully, I have to manage to my time very well so that I still get the work done but I am not overdoing it. However, I have plenty of time to complete my coursework because, I have three hours of Media Studies per week and I also have Monday afternoon and Friday off.
